I do agree people want it and awareness is growing, but there's still a lack of understanding. Many times it's "we want it because people are talking about it" not because they understand it can satisfy business goals.

THAT being said, as it gains popularity people are seeking to understand it better, so perhaps we're headed in the right direction.

		<description>I actually think that this awareness is finally moving into the mainstream. I say this from an 'in the trenches' point of view because we're demoing social media monitoring software to PR people all day every day and they're all telling us that their clients want this info now. Also, somewhat anecdotally, we're seeing a lot of mainstream, non-tech, brand discussions appearing in twitter-streams, commenting systems, wikis, etc. with rapidly growing traffic.
