September: an epic month for social media in Ottawa

It’s back to school time! And if you’re like me, even if it’s been a number of years since you were in school, you still get that nostalgic and a little terrified feeling at this time.

Whether you’re back in school or not at all, September is a great time to brush up skills and learn some new knowledge. Subconsciously our minds flick on and are ready to go.

So fortunately, this September, there’s lots of social media learning, networking and fun to be had! Here are some upcoming events in Ottawa:

Monday, Sept. 14 - Third Tuesday with Shel Israel

Shel Israel is author of Twitterville and he’s launching in Canada with a cross country tour thanks to the Third Tuesday series. What’s especially exciting about this, is Shel was also the first speaker ever at Third Tuesday Ottawa (maybe other cities as well, I’m not sure) when he spoke about his previous book Naked Conversations (written with Robert Scoble) This is a not-to-be missed event!

Tuesday, Sept. 15 – Girl Geek Dinner with Tara Hunt

Obviously this one is near and dear to me as one of the organizers… The “official” inaugural Girl Geek Dinner event in Ottawa, we are *thrilled* to have Tara Hunt as our guest. Join us at the Black Tomato on George for a fun night of networking, dining and chit-chat.

Wednesday, Sept. 16 – Social Media Breakfast with Tara Hunt

Just when you thought one Tara Hunt event is exciting enough… Tara will be talking ‘Whuffie‘ at the Social Media Breakfast event. Always a great event, this breakfast is definitely worth waking up early for!

Wednesday, Sept. 16 – Sprout Up with Saul Colt

Zoocasa‘s head of magic will be in town talking about about creating community & cultivating evangelism with customers. Also you’ll get to see a few local startups demo their products, including Fluid Surveys and NetworkHippo. (More to be announced).

Yea, that’s a lot for three days. But really, how often do we have this much awesomeness in one week? I’ll be at all four events, and I hope you will be too!

    Kelly,

It is a lot of awesomeness in only three days. Perhaps too much.

We should find a way to coordinate events so that we spread them out through the month.

Perhaps we could give one another a heads up when we’re booking speakers?

Agreed… There are so few events in Ottawa (compared to Toronto or Montreal) so we really shouldn’t be competing for numbers all in the same week.

With Girl Geek Dinner, we’re probably going to focus on more local speakers and hands-on workshops, as we’ve gotten feedback from our members at our crowdsourcing event. That makes it much easier to coordinate with other events.

I’ll take the initiative and be sure to drop a line to you and the Social Media Breakfast guys about our planned dates moving forward.

As you probably know–the season openers for both CPRS and IABC are that same week as well!
