About

Web 2.What? takes a community approach to understanding new and emerging tools and strategy for public relations and marketing application. From the perspective of a seasoned community manager, I write about what I’ve tried, what I want to try and what might help you do your job better.

What, you want to know about me personally??

I’m a geek at heart but my passion is writing–which is why I chose a career in PR. I’m also hopelessly curious, adventurous and love meeting new people. When I started my career, I quickly learned that all the geeky stuff I did in my spare time: online chatting/publishing/forums etc., was quickly becoming a hot sub-field of PR called social media. Bingo! I fell in love and started learning about how social media made sense in a business environment.

After working at a boutique e-marketing firm and going through its acquisition, I did a brief stint in municipal government (on contract) then re-joined the startup world as a community manager. I worked for both an early stage startup and then went on to a quickly growing successful startup before recently joining the agency world. Currently I’m at Thornley Fallis as a consultant. While I embrace and even thrive on change, I’m looking forward to building a career with a great team of people working on exciting projects.

Oh, I’m also involved in a lot of happenings in my own community. I am a co-organizer of Girl Geek Dinners Ottawa (#GGDOttawa), as well as the Ottawa Social Media Book Club and the Ottawa Community Manager Meetup. I’m on the local board of the International Association of Business Communicators as VP Professional Development. I also regularly attend events like Social Media Breakfast and Case Study Jam.

I love to connect with like-minded people… Here’s a few ways to easily connect with me:

  • krusk on Twitter
  • Kelly Rusk on LinkedIn
  • Facebook

And I dabble in just about any other community you can think of, so just look me up, I’m usually krusk. I also regularly read *and* respond to email, so feel free to reach me at kellyrusk@gmail.com.
